The God of the Hills is also
God of the Valley.
And it came to pass that the
servants of the king of Syria told him that the gods of the Israelites were
gods of the hills, and the reason why they were stronger than they were. Therefore
they advised him, that he should in future fight them in the plains, and there they
would then be stronger than they. They also advised Benhadad that he should
replace the kings with captains, and he should put together an army like the
one he had lost; horses for horses, and chariots for chariots, and fight the
enemy in the plain and in that way surely they would be victorious. And
Benhadad agreed to his servants suggestions. And it happened that at the turn
of the year Benhadad numbered the Syrians and went up to Aphek to fight against
Israel. And the children of Israel numbered themselves and went up against
Syria, And the children of Israel
pitched their tents in two divisions like two little flocks of kids; but the
Syrians filled the country. And there came a man of God and spoke to the king
of Israel and told him that because the Syrians described Him as a God of the
hills only and not a God of the valley, therefore he would deliver this great
multitude into his hands and he shall know that God is the Lord.
