Order of the Host- Defilement
by a Wife.
And the Lord commanded Moses
to speak unto the children of Israel and instruct them that if a man’s wife
should go aside and commit a trespass against him, whereby a man lies with her
carnally, secretly so that she is defiled but yet there is no eye witnesses
against her, and she is not caught in the act, but the spirit of jealousy
overcomes the husband, and he becomes jealous, but she is not defiled, then
shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and the husband shall bring an
offering for her in the amount of a tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he
shall pour no oil upon it nor put on it frankincense; for it is an offering of
jealousy, an offering of a memorial bringing iniquity into remembrance.
And the priest shall bring
her near, and set her before the Lord; and the priest shall take holy water in
an earthen vessel, and of the dust which is upon the floor of the tabernacle,
and put it into the water.
And the priest shall set the
woman before the Lord, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering of
memorial in her hands which is the jealousy offering, and the priest shall have
in his hand the bitter water that causes the curse, and the priest shall charge
her by an oath and say unto her, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have
not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of your husband, be free of
this bitter water that causes the curse.” More
