Order of the Host – Duties of
the sons of Levi
And in charge of the sons of
Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation, the tent and its coverings and
the hangings for the door and the hangings for the court, and the curtains of
the door of the court which is by the tabernacle and by the altar and around
it, and the cords around it and the service of all these.
And of Kohath was the family
of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites and the family of the Hebronites
and the family of the Uzzielites; all are the families of the Kohathites.
In the number of all the
males from a month old and upwards were eight thousand and six hundred, all
keeping the charge of the sanctuary; and the family of the sons of Kohath were
to camp on the southern side of the sanctuary. And the head of the house of the
father of the families the Kohathites was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. And their charge shall be the ark, and the
tables, and the lampstand, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary
used for ministering, and the hanging and all the service thereof.
And Eleazar the son of Aaron
the priest shall be chief over the leaders of the Levites and have the oversight
of them and keep the charge of the sanctuary. More
