Next to the second rank
formed by the tribes of Reuben Simeon and Gad, was the placement of the
tabernacle of the congregation. It was set forward in the middle of the camp,
and surrounded by the Levites, every man in his place by his standard.
On the West side of the
tabernacle was the standard of the camp of Ephraim, according to their armies,
and the captain of the sons of Ephraim was Elishama the son of Ammihud. And his
host and those who were numbered with him were forty thousand and five hundred.
And by him was the tribe of Manasseh and the captain of the children of
Manasseh was Gamaleil, the son of Pedahzur.
And his host and those who were numbered with them were thirty two
thousand two hundred. Next to him was the tribe of Benjamin; and the captain of
the sons of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni; and his host and those who
were numbered with them were thirty five thousand four hundred. And all who
were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand one
hundred; and they formed the third rank.
