BRAGADAYJAH 1105
Ahaz’s pact with Assyria.
Ahaz’s pact with Assyria.
In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of
Jotham king of Judah began to reign. Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to
reign and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem and did that which was right in
the sight of the Lord his God, like David his father did. But he walked in the way of the kings of
Israel, and made his son to pass through the fire according to the abominations
of the heathens whom the Lord had cast out in Favor of the children of Israel.
For he sacrificed burnt offerings in the high places and upon hills and upon
green trees. So at that time Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king
of Israel came up against him at Jerusalem to make war against him; and they besieged
Ahaz; but could not overcome him. But during the war, Rezin king of Syria
regained Elah for Syria and drove out the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians
occupied Elath continually thereafter. So Ahaz sent messengers to
Tiglath-pilser king of Assyria telling him that he was his servant and his son
and asking him to go up and save him out of the hands of the king of Syria and
the king of Israel. And so Ahaz took the gold and the silver that were in the
house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the King’s house, and sent them to
the king of Assyria.
