BRAGADAYJAH 1096
The Lord Allowed Syria to overrun Israel.
Now in the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah,
Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Samaria began to reign, and he reigned for
seventeen years; and during that time he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and
followed in the footsteps of Jeroboam his father who had made Israel to sin.
And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and He delivered them
into the hands of Hazael king of Syria, and of Benhadad the son of Hazael all
their days. And Jehoahaz sought the Lord and the Lord hearkened unto him
because He saw the oppression of the king of Syria. And the Lord gave Israel a
Saviour so that they came out from under the power of the Syrians; and the
children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before times. Nevertheless they
departed not from the sins of Jeroboam and made Israel to sin and maintained
the high places built to other gods. And Jehoahaz died and was buried in
Samaria; and Joash his son reigned in his stead.
