The Children of Israel Defeated a
Second Time.
We note that the children of Israel’s
first encounter with the children of Benjamin resulted in failure. Do we wonder why? They had the wisdom before
they attacked Benjamin, to ask God who should go up first; and God told them; but
they decided to do their own thing; so not surprisingly, their self-centered
efforts met with failure. So what did
they do? They reassembled themselves the
second day at the same place and once again prepared to battle against
Benjamin; but while so assembled, they went to the house of God and cried
before and implored Him what to do, and whether they should go up or not; and
the Lord told them to go up. So they went up the second time and the children
of Benjamin destroyed them a second time even eighteen thousands of them. So
the next day they went back before the Lord again and wept and fasted until
evening and offered burnt offerings before the Lord and made supplications unto
Him.
