Invasion
Not
only were manifold curses and hardship foreshadowed to them who disobeyed, but
also the promise of invasion; for God warned; “The Lord shall bring a nation
against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies;
a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; a nation of fierce countenance
who shall have no regard for the person of the old nor show favor to the young;
and he shall eat the fruit of the land and the fruit of your cattle until you
are destroyed; and you will be left with neither grain nor wine nor oil nor the
increase of your young ones of your flocks and your sheep until you are left
with nothing. And he shall besiege you in all your gates until your high and
fortified cities fall down, and he shall also besiege you in all your borders
and utterly destroy you.”
