Job’s Troubles
Then Job’s wife, seeing the distress of her husband, said unto Job, “Do you
still hold to your integrity in God, Why do you not curse him and die?” But Job
responded and told her “You speak as one of the foolish women. Shall we receive
good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil also?” And Job continued
to hold to his righteousness and refrain from sin. Soon Job’s three friends
heard of Job’s troubles, and they came from their places each of them, Eliphaz
the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; for they had
consulted with each other and agreed that the three of them should visit Job at
the same time, and to comfort him. And while they were some distance away, they
saw Job, but did not recognize him, because of the state he was in; and they
were so overcome that they wept and tore their mantle and sprinkled dust upon
their heads So they went and sat with Job upon the ground seven days and seven
nights; and during that time, no one spoke because they saw the grief that Job
was suffering.
