Esther and Mordecai subordinate only to the king
The Jews then ordained and took upon them, and upon their seed, and unto all
such as joined themselves unto them, so that it should not fail that they would
keep these days, according to their writing, at the appointed time every year.
That the days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every
family, in every province, and in every city, and those days of Purim should
not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.
Then Esther the Queen herself wrote using her authority, to confirm this second
letter of Purim. And letters were sent to all the Jews in all the hundred and twenty
seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth. And
the decree of Esther and Mordecai confirmed the letters of Purim and it was
written in the records of the Persians. And King Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon
the land and upon the isles of the sea. And all the acts of his power and his
might and the declaration of the greatness of Mordecai whereby the king
advanced him are recorded in the Chronicles of the kings of Media and of
Persia. For Mordecai the Jew was next to king Ahasuerus and was great among the
Jews and accepted by the multitude of his brethren, as he sought prosperity for
all his people and peace for the generations to follow.
