Haman’s Plot against the Jews.
In course of time, King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha, an
Agagite and made set him above all the princes of the land. And all the king’s
servants who came within the king’s gate bowed and reverenced Haman; for the
king had commanded that all should do so. But Mordecai would not bow to him nor
revere him. Then the king’s servants who were within the gate challenged
Mordecai and asked him why he refused to pay homage to Haman in obedience to
the king’s commandment. So eventually when he continued to ignore Haman, it was
brought to Haman’s attention for Mordecai had informed them that he was a Jew.
And on hearing the complaint Haman became very angry. So Haman thought how he
could lay hands on Mordecai as well as all the Jews within the territory. And
in the first month, the month Nisan, during the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus’
reign they cast lots before Haman every day from month to month until the
twelfth month that is the month Adar.
