The Jews Destroyed their enemies
Then the Jews smote all their enemies with the sword with slaughter and destruction; and did what they would against those that hated them. In Shushan the palace, they slaughtered five hundred men; including, ten sons of Haman the Jew hater; but they did not take any of the spoils. And the number that were slain in Shushan were brought before the king; and the king said to Esther the queen. “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman. What has been done in the rest of the king’s provinces? Do you have any further petition?” And Esther replied and said, “Now O king if it please thee, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according to the decree of the day and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.” And the king acceded to Esther’s request, and the king gave an order that Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows. And the Jews in the other provinces gathered themselves together and slew on the thirteenth and fourteenth day seventy five thousand men; but took none of their spoils; and so on both days, the thirteenth and the fourteenth, they made a day of feasting and rejoicing. But the Jews that were at Shushan feasted for three days, on the thirteenth through the fifteenth. And the Jews outside in the un-walled towns made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of feasting and gladness; a day on which they feasted and exchanged gifts.
