Who was the Strongest Man?
I am certain that if I conducted a quiz about the strongest
man ever, especially among Christians, Samson would get the vote. When I was a
little boy I used to hear a calypso, “Ever since the world began, Samson was
the strongest man,” and I am sure even today many would say, Samson was the
strongest man ever. Yet on examination of the Biblical facts, one may easily
discover that Samson was a weakling in reality; weak in character; weak
mentally and morally weak. Time and
again he fell for the wiles of a woman, and not only a woman, but women of no
reputation. However when we examine even his greatest feats, we find that each
time, it was the Spirit of God that came upon him, giving him the strength,
enabling and empowering him. And so I suggest without the superintendent Holy
Spirit of God Samson was a weakling, indeed no stronger than any other man; as
indeed it is written, “Without God, we can do nothing.”
