Samson Fooled Again
Was Samson a fool? One might with
justification say that perhaps a person who allows himself to be fooled over
and over again, especially by the same person, pulling the same trick may be
indeed a fool. I have often heard people criticize a character in a play by saying,
“he/she is so silly!” ignoring the fact the actor is playing a roll, and
following a script as directed by the director. And so it is in so many of our
Bible stories, we tend to forget that the director/script writer is none other
than the Creator Himself. When like in a movie He picks actors for the part, He
already knows their innermost character, strengths and weaknesses. In the case of Samson, God already knew his
human frailties, but used him to show His, (God’s own) power and dominion over
all the earth.
So
to continue with the story of Samson and Delilah. Having tried three times and
failed she turned on the tears and the wronged spouse façade. “How can you say
you love me when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three
times, and have not told me wherein your great strength lies.” And so she continued day in day out until at
