From the borders of Edom, those of the children of Israel who
survived snake bites or being bitten journeyed unto and pitched their tents at
Oboth and having rested there, they soon moved on to and encamped around the
borders of Moab, the land of the Amorites. And they encamped around the stream which
flows from the brook on the border of Ar; and from there they journeyed on to
Be'er and having arrived there the Lord told Moses to gather the people
together as He would give them water there.
After having been refreshed the children of Israel sang a song of
praise to the Lord, extoling his providence in providing water from the well.
And having refreshed themselves they continued on their journey passing over
Mattanah, Nahaliel, Bamoth all the way to the top of Mount Pisgah which
overlooked Jeshimon.
Having arrived there, they sent messengers to Sihon, King of the
Amorites seeking permission to pass over peaceably, promising not to trespass
upon their vineyard or even to drink water from their wells, but confine
themselves to the highway; but Sihon declined their request and refused them
passage.
