BRAGADAYJAH 456
After many had died from the
sting of serpents, the people turned to Moses and confessed that they had
sinned in that they had spoken against the Lord and against Moses. Therefore, said they, pray for us unto the
Lord that he may take the serpents away from us. And of course Moses sought the Lord on their
behalf.
And so the Lord told Moses to
make a fiery serpent and set it upon a pole; and it will come to pass that
everyone who is bitten, when he looks upon the brazen serpent he shall live.
And Moses made a serpent of
bronze and put it upon a pole and it came to pass that if anyone was bitten, when
he looked upon the serpent, he lived.
In this context, the serpent
symbolized sin judged; the bronze was also symbolic of the bronze alter where
sin was judged and the bronze laver of self- judgment where one symbolically
washed away his sin. And of course the bronze serpent is a type of Christ who
became sin for us.
