BRAGADAYJAH 358
The Lord also mandated penalties
for blasphemy. So we have, for example, the
case of the Israelitish woman whose father was an Egyptian; and her son went
out and strove, within the camp, with a man who was an Israelite. And this son
of the Israelitish woman blasphemed against the name of the Lord by
cursing. And he was brought before
Moses. This young man’s mother’s name
was Shelomith, and she was the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.
The young man, the blasphemer
was cast into prison, because Moses wanted to hear from the Lord concerning the
matter. And the Lord spoke unto Moses
and said, “Bring forth the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who
heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let the congregation stone him.”
“And speak unto the children
of Israel and say unto them, whosoever curses his God shall bear his sin. And
he who blasphemes the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death. And
all the congregation shall surely stone him as well as the sojourner as he who
is born in the land. Anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall be put to
death.”
