BrAGADAYJAH 679
So appeased, Phinehas the priest and the princes left the
children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh and
went out of the land of Gilead and retuned unto the children of Israel, and
brought them word telling them that Reuben and the rest of his brethren on the
other side of the Jordan did not disrespect the Lord God of heaven or
disregarded his statutes and His commandments by the altar which they had built,
but rather a memorial for future generations, and in remembrance of the Lord
their God. The news pleased the children of Israel, and they were happy that
there was no need to go to war against their brethren their fellow Israelites
on the other side of the Jordan. And the
children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh
called the name of the altar Ed, meaning a witness between them and God
