Promise
of World-wide Dispersion
It
shall come to pass that just as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good, and
to multiply you, so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring
you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from the land to which you are going
to possess it. And the Lord shall
scatter you among all people from the one end of the earth unto the other; and
there you shall serve other gods which neither you nor your fathers have heard
of, gods made of wood and stone. And among those nations you shall find no ease,
neither shall the soles of your feet find rest, but the Lord will give you
there trebling hearts, and failing eyes and sorrow of mind; and you shall live continually
in fear. In the morning you would wish it were evening, and in the evening you
would say wish it were evening. And the Lord will deliver you again to be
slaves in Egypt and you shall see your homeland never again.
