BRAGADAYJAH 743
After Shechem
Abimelech set his sights against Thebez and having laid siege against it, he
took it. But there was a strong tower within the city and within fled all the
men and women and all who were in the city took refuge at the top of the tower.
And Abimelech attacked the tower and set fire against it to burn it, but a
woman threw down a piece of millstone and struck Abimelech in his head and
broke his skull. Then Abimelech called his armourbearer and instruct him to slay
him with his sword so that he may conceal the shame of being killed by a woman;
and his armourbearer ran him through and he died. And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech
was dead, the men returned to his own place. And so it was that God dealt with
Abimelech for the wickedness he had done to his father’s house in slaying his
seventy brethren. And as for the men of Shechem God did bring upon their heads the
curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
