BRAGADAYJAH 723
And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, they found the
altar of Baal cast down, along with the grove which was lying by it, and the
second bullock was offered on the altar that was built. And they enquired among
themselves asking who had done it, and when they enquired and were told that
Gideon the son of Joash had done it. They went and confronted Gideon’s father,
Joash and demanded that he surrender his son to them that they may kill him for
braking down the altar of Baal and for cutting down the grove. And Joash confronted those that stood against
him and asked them if they would plead for Baal, or would they try to save
him. Joash challenged them to allow Baal
to plead for himself if he is a god, and let him put to death the one
responsible for casting down his altar before morning.
