BRAGADAYJAH 1087
Jehu Smote Jehoram
So when the horseman sent out by Joram to Jehu, he asked him the
question in the name of the king, “Do you come in peace?” And Jehu asked him
what he had to do with peace, and told him to get behind him. So it was
reported to the king that the horseman sent out did not return. So a second
horseman was sent out who asked the same question, and received the same answer
from Jehu, “turn thee behind me.” Then the watchman reported that the second
rider sent out did not return either, and also as the riders came nearer riding
furiously, the rider looked like Jehu. Then Joram ordered his servants to make
ready his chariot and it was made ready. And so Joram king of Israel and
Ahaziah king of Judah each went out in his chariot; and they both went out
against Jehu and met him in the portion pertaining to Naboth the Jezreelite. And when Joram saw Jehu he asked him, “Is it
peace Jehu?” And he replied. “What peace so long as the whoredom of thy mother
Jezebel and his witchcraft are so many?” And Joram turned around and fled and shouted
to Ahaziah that there was treachery. And Jehu drew a bow and smote Jehoram
through the heart and he sank down in his chariot. Then Jehu gave command for Jehoram’s
body to be cast into the field of Naboth the Jezreelite.
