BRAGADAYJAH
502
Moses
recounted how when he had laid the offences of the children of Israel before
them with regard to the affairs of the spies and their cowardly and faithless
actions, whereby they had incurred God’s wrath, they had responded and said. “We
have sinned against the Lord; we will go and fight according to all that the
Lord our God had commanded us. And then they had girded on every man his
weapons of war and they were ready to fight.”
“And
the Lord said unto me”, Moses told them, “go you not up neither fight; for I am
not with you, and you would be smitten
by your enemies. After I told you what the Lord had told me to tell you, you
nevertheless rebelled against the Lord and went presumptuously up to fight. And
the Amorites came out against you and chased you as bees do and destroyed you
in Sir even all the way to Hormah. Then they returned and wept before the Lord;
but the Lord will not heed them nor entertain their petitions. So, therefore they
abode in Kadesh for a long time.”
