BRAGADAYJAH
481
Following
upon the seven days of feasting, there was decreed a solemn assembly on the
eight day, in which no work was to be done; but burnt offerings were to be
offered up consisting of a bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year,
together with the meal and drink offering as per the first day, and also a sin
offering of a kid of the goats.
And Moses
spoke all the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel and told
that this was what the Lord had commanded. And if a man vows a vow unto the
Lord,
or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word he
shall do according to all that came out of his moth. And if a woman also makes
a vow unto the Lord to bind herself to a bond being in her father’s house in
her youth, and her father hears her vow and her bond wherewith she has bound
her soul, and her father holds his peace with her, then all her vows shall
stand; and every bond wherewith she has bound herself shall stand. But if her
father disallows it in the day he hears it, not any of her vows or her bonds
wherewith she has bound her soul shall stand; and the Lord will forgive her
because her father had disallowed it. And if she had at all a husband when she
vowed or uttered anything out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul and her husband heard it and held his peace at
the time, then her vows shall stand and the bonds wherewith she has bound her
soul shall stand. But if the husband hears it and disallows it at the same
time, then her vows and her bonds shall be of no effect and the Lord will
forgive her. More
