So we saw the elements of consecration; the young bullock,
the two rams, the unleavened bread and cakes.
These were to be put in a basket and taken along with the bullock and
two rams, and along with Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tabernacle,
and in the presence of the congregation be washed with water.
This
washing was of course a sign of regeneration, as Jesus was later to say to Nicodemus,
“ you must be born of water and of the spirit,” the water being an outward
visible sign of an inward spiritual grace.
Having been
thus washed and prepared for consecration the garments made for Aaron, the
coat, the robe the ephod, the breastplate, and girded about with the
beautifully woven girdle of the ephod.
Then the miter would be placed on his head, and the holy crown upon the
miter. Once the crown was on his head
and thus fitted with all the priestly garments, he was to be anointed with the
anointing oil being poured upon his head.
Then
Aaron’s sons were to be brought forth and coats put on them, and girded about
with girdles, and turbans placed on their heads; and they too consecrated and
together with their father Aaron, would serve the Lord perpetually as a priestlywww.chaberbooks.com
