Jehu Executes Ahaziah
When Ahaziah saw what befell Jehoram, he too turned and fled. And Jehu
followed after him and commanded his men to slay Ahaziah also while in his
chariot. And Ahaziah was slain and he continued on wounded to Megiddo and he
died there. And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried
him there in the sepulcher of his father in the city of David. And when Jehu
had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it and she painted her face and tied her
head, and looked out of a window, and she saw Jehu coming and shouted. “Had
Zimri peace who slew his master!” And Jehu lifted up his face to the window and
said. “Who is on my side?” “Who?” And two or three eunuchs appeared at the
window behind Jezebel. And Jehu said, “Throw her out of the window.” And they
threw her down and some of her blood spilled unto the wall and unto the horses;
and Jehu rode over her and she was trampled under feet. And when he went in, he
ate and drank and said. “This is the word of the Lord which he spoke by the mouth
of his servant Elisha saying; “by the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the
flesh of Jezebel; and her carcase shall lie in the field until her body could
no longer be identified.”
