The Shunammite’s Child dies.
And when the child was grown, it happened that
one day he went out to his father who was with the reapers. And the child complained
about his head, and his father ordered that he be taken back to the house to
his mother. And when her son was delivered
to her, she put him on her knees where he sat until he died. And she went up
and laid him on the bed of the man of God and closed the door and went out.
Then she sent to her husband and asked him to send one of the servants and one
of the asses to her so she could run quickly to the man of God and return
again. Then after the servant had
saddled the ass, she instructed the
servant to drive the ass as fast as he could, not slacking even for her unless
she asked him. So she went and came toward the man of God at Mount Carmel. And it came to pass that even while she was
yet afar off, the man of God saw her coming, and told his servant Gehazi, “Behold
the Shunammite woman is coming. Run now to meet her and ask her if everything
is well with her, with her husband and with the child.” And she said all was
well. But she continued on to the man of God and when she came to her on a hill
she caught him by the feet and Gehazi went to pull her away from his master;
but Elisha ordered him to leave her alone; for, he said, “Her soul is vexed
