Boaz given the right of Redemption.
The following morning, Boaz went and
sat by the gate of the city, and there came by the kinsman who was first in
line for Ruth’s hand in accordance with the law of the inheritance. And Boaz
asked the man to join him and they sat down together. And then Boaz invited ten
men of the city to join them; and they did. And Boaz told the kinsman in their
presence and that of the people, that Naomi who came out of the land of Moab
sells a parcel of land which belonged to their brother Elimelech. And it was
his intention to invite him to claim it being the first in line; and if not to let
him know that he may claim it. And Boaz also said that beside the field of
Naomi the kinsman would be obliged to take along with it, Ruth, the Moabitess the
wife of the dead to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. And the first kinsman said that he was unable
to redeem the inheritance, leaving it to Boaz to do so.
