Moses
explained to the children of Israel the reason the Lord chose them from among
all the peoples of the earth. “The Lord
did not set His love upon you, nor chose you because you were more in number
than any people, for you were the fewest in number of all people. But because the Lord loved you, and because
He would keep His oath which He swore unto your fathers. That
is the reason the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out
of the house of bondage from the land of Pharaoh King of Egypt.”
“Know,
therefore, that the Lord your God He is God, the faithful God who keeps
covenant and mercy with them who love Him and keep His commandments to a
thousand generations, and repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy
them; He will not be slack to them that hate Him; He will repay them to their
face.”
“Thou
shall, therefore, keep His commandments, and the statutes and the ordinances
which I command you this day to do them.”
