Moses Reunited With His Father-in Law and his Family
While Moses
was leading his people in the wilderness and news of his defeat of Amalek was
noised abroad, Moses’ father in law, Jethro, came to Moses returning his wife
Zipporah, and his two sons. The names of
the sons were, Gershom, signifying that he was born an alien in a foreign land,
and the name of the other was Eliezer, because he said, the God of my father
said he was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.
Now Moses’
father in law found him encamped in the mount of God, and Jethro explained to
Moses why he had come at that time and brought his wife and children with
him. Moses greeted his father-in-law
warmly, and the two men embraced and kissed each other, and enquired about each
other’s affairs.
And Moses
told Jethro how God had been good to him.
He told him all that God had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel ’s sake,
as well as all the trouble they had been having on the way through the
wilderness, and how the Lord had delivered them. And Jethro rejoiced with Moses upon hearing the good news;
especially of all the things He had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians. So Jethro declared, “Now I know that the Lord
is greater than all the gods; for in that they dealt proudly, God was above
them all.”
And
Jethro took a burnt offering and sacrificed unto God; and in the company of
Aaron, they all broke bread together. www.chaberbooks.cpm
