BRAGADAYJAH 1153
The King’s Reply
At long last, the enemy received the reply they long canvassed and
hoped for. Artaxerxes ordered work on
the temple suspended. This was the king’s reply. “The letter which you sent to
me was plainly read before me. And I commanded and search has been made and it
is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and
sedition and rebellion has been made therein. There has been mighty kings also
over Jerusalem which have ruled over all countries, beyond the river and toll,
custom and tribute was made to them. I now give commandment to cause these men
to and that this city be not built until another commandment shall be given by
me. Take heed therefore that you fail not to do this in order that damage may
not grow to the hurt of the kings. So upon the receipt of the king’s letter the
recipients rushed up to Jerusalem and by authority of the letter and by force,
caused the building work to cease
