BRAGADAYJAH 1144
Fulfilled Prophesy
Following upon yesterday’s account how Darius king of Persia decreed ordered
that the scattered remnants of the children of Israel who were willing, to
return to Jerusalem and start collecting gold and silver and other supplies for
the building of the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, it is thought that some
explanation of the background history and circumstances was necessary. Over the
immediate past days we were dealing with the mighty king of Babylon who had
overran Israel, that is to say the Northern kingdom and carried away the
children of Israel and then finally Jerusalem, the Southern kingdom, and carrying
away and executing all except the laborers in agriculture. But to understand
the jump from Babylon to Persia we must see that some seventy years intervened,
during which time Babylon had fallen and given way to the Medio- Persian
Empire. What is remarkable is to know that the city of Babylon was thought to
be impregnable to any invading force, by virtue of its levered gates built
under the city, the only way to get into it, and then could be opened only from
the inside. Yet some 800 years before, God had said that King Cyrus his servant
would do just that. We note too that in that same era almost a hundred years
before, God’s prophet Daniel, in the time of Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon
Daniel had his famous dream which he told the king signified that his empire
would fall into the hands of another imperial ruler. (to be continued)
