David Buys Araunah’s Threshing Floor.
Now as David and his servants went towards the hill, Araunah saw him coming and he went towards him, and bowed himself to him.  And Araunah asked the king what was the purpose of his visit; and David told him that he wanted to purchase his threshing floor to build an altar unto the Lord, that the plague may be stayed from the people. And Araunah replied and told the king that he could have the field for nothing, and beside he could have oxen for burnt sacrifice as well as threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood. And King David said to Araunah, “Nay; but I will buy it from thee for a price.  For I will not offer burnt offering unto the Lord my God of that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. And David .built there an altar unto the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.  So the Lord was appeased for the land and the plague was stayed from the land of Israel.
