BRAGADAYJAH 979

BRAGADAYJAH 979
David’s Heart convicted him
And Joab departed and passed over Jordan and pitched in Aroer on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer; and then they went through Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi and thence to Danjaan and to Zidon.  Then they came to the stronghold of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites and then South of Juda to Beersheba .And after they had gone through all the land they returned to Jerusalem after nine months and twenty days. And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people of Israel to the King. Of Israel, hundred thousand valiant men that drew sword, and five hundred thousand, men of Judah. And when David heard the numbers, his heart smote him and he spoke unto the Lord and said, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done; and now I pray thee O Lord to take away the iniquity of thy servant for I have done very foolishly.” David’s repentance also came about because Gad the prophet of the Lord, David’s Seer had been directed by the Lord to go and tell David that his punishment would be one of three choices, namely: a) seven years of famine in the land; b) to be put to flight before his enemies for three months; c) three days of pestilence in the land. And David’s replied and said that he was in a terrible strait; but that he would prefer to fall into the hand of God than into the hand of man.
