The Quails and the Plagues
And after that there went
forth a wind from the Lord and brought quails from the sea which fell by the
camp within a day’s journey of the camp on either side; and it was piled up
more than six feet high on the ground.
And the people went out and
stayed all the day and all the night and all the next day gathering the quail,
all gathering as much as he was able to carry.
Then they prepared the flesh
for eating and sat down to eat; but while the flesh was in their mouth between
their teeth, before they began to chew it, the anger of the Lord was stirred
against them; and the Lord smote them with a very great plague. And the Lord
called the name of the place Kibrothhattavah because there they buried the
people that lusted. So the people, therefore, left that place and journeyed to
Hazeroth and abode there.
