From Sinai to Kadesh-Barnea
The Seventy Elders
Upon hearing Moses complaint,
the Lord said unto him; “Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel
whom you know to be elders of the people, and officers over them, and bring
them into the tabernacle of the congregation that they may stand there with
you.”www.chaberbooks.com
“And I will come down and
talk with you there, and I will take the Spirit which is upon you and put it
upon them and they shall bear the burden of the people with you so that you
would no longer have to bear it alone.”
“Tell the people to sanctify
themselves for tomorrow; and you shall eat flesh; for you have wept in the ears
of the Lord asking, who shall give us flesh to eat. For it was well with us in
Egypt; therefore the Lord will give you flesh and you shall eat. You shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor
five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, but even a whole month, until it
comes out of your mouth, until it comes out of your nostrils, and it be loathsome
unto you; because you have despised the Lord who is among you and have wept
before him saying, Why He brought us out of Egypt!
And Moses said to the Lord, the
people are six hundred thousand footmen, and you say you will give them flesh
to eat for a whole month. Shall the flocks and herds be slain for them to suffice,
them? Or shall all the fish in the sea be gathered to satisfy them?
And the Lord asked Moses, has
the Lords hand become short? You will see now whether the Lord’s word shall
come to pass or not.
And Moses went out and told
the people the words of the Lord and gathered the seventy men of the elders of
the people and set them round about the tabernacle.
And the Lord came down and
spoke to him in a cloud, and took of the Spirit which was upon him and gave it
unto the seventy elders; and it came to pass when the Spirit rested upon them
they prophesied and did not cease.
