BRAGADAYJAH 411
Once the Levites were set
before Aaron and his sons, they were separated from among the children of
Israel and they were the Lord’s. And after that they were to go in to do the
service of the tabernacle of the congregation; they shall thus be cleansed and
an offering unto the Lord. They are completely given unto the Lord from among
the children of Israel in the place of those who had opened every womb, the
first-born of all the children of Israel.
“And I,” said the Lord, “have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and
his sons from among the children of Israel to do the service of the children of
Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make atonement for the
children of Israel, that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when
the children of Israel come near the sanctuary.”
And Moses and Aaron and all
the congregation of the children of Israel did unto the Levites as the Lord
commanded; and the Levites were purified; they washed their clothes and Aaron
offered them as an offering before the Lord and Aaron made an atonement for
them to cleanse them. And after that the Levites entered into the tabernacle of
the congregation according to the commandment of the Lord.
The Levites were to serve in
the tabernacle from the age of twenty five to the age of fifty and after that
they would cease to do so; but join the congregation to keep order but do no
further service in the tabernacle.
