Before
continuing further, I find it necessary to pause and point out one salient,
undeniable, but often overlooked, fact, especially today; that all sin must be
atoned. In this regard there is no change in God’s law; so it was then when God
was instructing the children of Israel regarding sin and its atonement, so it
still is today. The only difference is the method of, not the need for,
atonement. Then it was by the flood of
sheep and goat, bulls and rams and birds; but since the death and resurrection
of Jesus, it is his All-Sufficient blood and His alone.
Since, therefore, leprosy and diseases such as running
out of the flesh were symbolic of sin, so, then all such had to be atoned by a
sin offering.
Running is not described with any degree of certainty
or particularity; but from all the surrounding facts it does appear to be what
we now know to be gonorrhea. It maybe a little surprising to learn that way
back then such ailments were known; but then again it may be that God was
merely being proactive and providing a remedy in advance.
Be that as it may, however, we see that there was a
provision for atonement in the case of the man who had that terrible disease in
his body to the extent he was taken as having contaminated his house. He too, had to provide two birds, two young
pigeons or two turtledoves, and cedar wood and scarlet and hyssop and the
priest would do with the birds that which he had done formerly to cleanse the
leper of his leprosy. The law was the same for all manner of diseases of the
flesh be it leprosy, scabies, running and such like eruptions and breaking outs
of the flesh of man. More
