Voluntary pledge of Support for the upkeep of the House of God
So the nobles, priests, fathers and people turned to God and bound themselves
by a solemn oath signed and sealed to adhere to their God. They also vowed that
they would not give their daughters to the people of the land, nor accept their
daughters for their sons. They also pledged that if the people of the land took
to them any supplies on the Sabbath day, that they should not purchase any on
that day. That they would forego the seventh year and the exaction of every
debt in that year. Then they made ordinances whereby they pledged support for
the upkeep of the house of God. In that regard, they charged themselves yearly
with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of their God. For
the shewbread and the continual meat-offering; and for the continual
burnt-offering, of the Sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for
the holy things, and for the sin offering, to make an atonement for Israel, and
for all the work for the upkeep of the house of their God.
