BRAGADAYJAH 823
And it came to pass that when Samuel
was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.
The name of the first-born was Joel, and the name of the second Abiah;
they were judges in Beersheba. And
Samuel’s sons did not walk in the manner of their father, but turned aside
after money, and took bribes, and perverted justice. And all the elders of Israel gathered
together and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him that now he was old, his
sons were not walking in his footsteps.
Therefore they told Samuel that they wanted a king to judge them like
the other nations had. But Samuel was displeased when they said to him that
they wanted a king to judge them; and Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord
told Samuel to listen to the voice of the people, and do as they ask; for said
the Lord, “They have not rejected you; but rather they have rejected me that I
should no longer rule over them.”
