BRAGADAYJAH 677
So then let us see the Reubenites reply and learn their true
motives. “The children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh answered the children of Israel and said. The Lord God of Gods, and
the God of the children of Israel knows. He knows whether we built this altar
in rebellion or transgression against Him. He knows whether we have built this
altar to offer, burnt offering, or peace offerings or meat offerings out of
fear and reverence to Him or not. If not let Him condemn us this day. He knows
we have built it as a memorial to our children that in time to come our
children and yours shall see it as a remembrance and know that the Lord have
caused the river Jordan to be a border between us. So we decided to build this
alter not to burn offering or sacrifice on, but as a memorial between us and
you and between our children and your children so that they may know in time to
come that we too serve the same God as you do.
