The Spies Escaped.
Having made their promise to Rahab, the two spies escaped
under cover of darkness, Rahab having let them down by a cord through her
window which was close to the town’s wall. Rahab was not only trustworthy, but
a good ally to have, since she not only hid them and helped them to escape, but
she also advised them of the best route
to take, directing them to avoid capture by escaping through the mountain,
where she old them to hide themselves three days until the searchers got tired
and give up. The spies thanked her and promised to be faithful to their
promises to her, and gave her a scarlet thread to display in the very window
through which she had helped them to escape, and advised her to take her father
and her siblings to her house and protect them there, and keep them inside the
house and caution them not to go outside of the house once the invasion started;
assuring her that they will be protected as long as they remained in her house.
The men also advised her not to speak about their discussion with anyone,
reminding her that if she blabbed, or did not do according as they had advised
her and any harm befell her or her family, then their hands would be innocent
of their blood.
