Surely
God never tires of warning His people; and so now preparatory to entering into
the promised land, he instructs Moses to tell the people one more time. So Moses called them together and said to
them: “You have seen all the Lord has done in Egypt before your eyes; unto
Pharaoh, his servants and his lands. Also you have seen great trials, signs and
miracles. Yet the Lord has not given you a heart o perceive, ears to hear and
eyes to see up to this time. And I have led you forty years in the wilderness.
Yet your clothes have not become old upon you, and your shoes have not become
old on your feet. You have not eaten bread nor drunk wine or strong drink, so
that you may know I am the Lord your God. And when you came to this place,
Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og, the king of Bashan came out against us unto
battle; and we smote them. And we took their lands and gave it for an
inheritance unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to the half tribe of
Manasseh.”
