And after dealing thus with the five kings, Joshua took
Makkedah and smote it with the edge of the sword, including the king and all
its inhabitants, allowing none to escape and dealt with the king as he did with
the king of Jericho. And he went from Makkedah together with his company of
soldiers and fought against Libnah unto Lachish and surrounded and fought
against it. And the Lord delivered Lachish into the hands of the Israelites
which took it on the second day, and smote with the edge of the sword all the
inhabitants thereof as they had done to Libnah. Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help
Lachish and Joshua smote him and his people until none were left. And from
Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon and all Israel with him and they encamped
against it and fought against it. And they took it on that day and smote it
with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein were utterly
destroyed that day as he had done to the other cities.
